IPL Hair Removal
Are you fed up with time-consuming, messy and painful hair removal methods? Shaving, waxing, tweezing and hair removal creams have been replaced by hair removal in a flash! Ellipse uses the power of natural light emitted from a flash-lamp in short bursts to quickly and safely remove hair from all body sites in minutes.
How does Ellipse IPL remove unwanted hair?
Ellipse uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to safely and effectively reduce unwanted hair. The highly trained Ellipse operator will guide the specially designed lamp over the treatment area, applying very short pulses of light to the skin. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light causing a heat reaction. The heat will travel down to the base of the hair follicle and damage the follicle itself. By damaging the base this will inhibit future hair growth.
Is it safe?
The IPL system uses completely safe, visible light. Ellipse features a unique Dual Mode Filtering system that removes any potentially harmful wavelengths of light, and makes sure only light with the right wavelengths reaches the skin. Studies at leading universities have confirmed the safety of IPL hair removal.
Is it pain-free?
Everyone varies in their sensitivity to pain, but most clients describe the sensation as quite moderate, almost like a flick of heat which only lasts for a short moment.
Can all hairs be treated?
We can treat any unwanted hair on the body, apart from the eyebrows. Common problem areas include the face, bikini areas, underarms and legs. Ellipse IPL is also highly effective in treating ingrown hairs. As the treatment relies on the light being absorbed by the hair pigment (melanin), the most effective treatment is seen with dark hairs. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the distinction between hair and skin, making treatment easier. However, Ellipse has pre-programmed settings for different hair and skin colours to adjust the energy output to your specific needs.
A full consultation and patch test is available.
How long does Ellipse hair removal take?
A course of 6 treatments (with 4-8 week intervals) are recommended for best results, although results can be seen after 1 treatment. A course of treatments is required because only follicles that are in the growth phase contain hairs and can be destroyed. The length of each session depends on the area being treated.
What precautions do I need to take before or after treatment?
The area to be treated needs to be shaved or trimmed short for best results. But it is important not to remove hair with plucking, tweezing, waxing or creams in the four weeks prior to IPL treatment. This increases the effectiveness of the treatment by making sure as many follicles as possible contain a hair and can be destroyed by the light.
Sun exposure or fake tan has to be avoided throughout a course of treatment. This is because the treatment is more effective when there is a greater difference between light skin tone and dark hair colour.
What is the difference between IPL and laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal and IPL both offer permanent hair reduction by using light to destroy hair follicles, and because of this some people use the terms IPL and laser hair removal interchangeably. IPL hair removal is actually a more recent technology that uses diffused light waves with many wavelengths, whereas laser hair removal uses a focused laser beam of a single wavelength. Laser hair removal can often work out more expensive than IPL which offers faster results, and some people find that laser hair removal is more painful.
